St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral Melbourne

Located in the heart of the Melbourne CBD at one of its busiest intersections (even with traffic changes of recent years) St Paul's is in all senses at the heart of Melbourne life. The cathedral is unusual for the Southern hemisphere in still maintaining the daily choral service with choir of men and boys and a magnificent TC Lewis cathedral organ. For a history of the cathedral go here

Note the trams in the pictures above - an integral part of Melbourne life and part of the extensive public transport system which makes Melbourne such a liveable city

The cathedral looking "west" - in reality the cathedral is oriented north south - an excellent departure from tradition in a warm climate such as Australia. Two views from the cathedral steps- firstly the somewhat anomalous but well loved Flinders Street railway station and....

...even uglier, but equally beloved, Young and Jackson's hotel - no doubt a frequent refuge for cathedral musicians before, after and even (dare we suggest) DURING cathedral services.
